Each of us has a few books that we have really appreciated – those that have been given to us or recommended to us that we have passed along to others.  Those books have something important to say to us.

Pro. 19:20

“Listen to counsel and receive instruction that you may be wise in your latter days”.

We are all desperate for wisdom.

We thank God for books.  Of the millions of books published, there are a few that have tremendously affected society.  The Bible would be a prime example.

Pro.  4: 1

“My children listen to me.  Listen to your father’s instruction.  Pay attention and grow wise, for I am giving you good guidance”.

How many times have we thought “I wish I had known 30 years ago what I know today?”

You may not have a mentor or a “father” figure that you can rely on for good input when you don’t know what to do; however, there has never been a time when there were more resources available, so that, through the power of the Spirit, you can be successful at fulfilling your purpose.

Purpose— building the kingdom, winning and rescuing souls.

When we fail in our life purpose, others (indeed whole cultures) will be adversely affected.

Charles Spurgeon had 12,000 books in his library.  In my study, I was challenged by the number of books C. S. Lewis mentions as having a significant impact on his life.  We often quote Spurgeon and Lewis without giving much thought to the books that shaped, indeed transformed, their lives into the great men of God that we admire today.

So,

We are starting a blog that we are calling READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY, focused on books that have had a significant impact on our lives and ministry.

Your input will be important to the TMCI Family.  As we progress, we may occasional add other categories, but will always focus on ministry, family or personal issues.

Example:  Near the Christmas season we may ask you for input on your favorite Christmas book/stories (read aloud stories or books) that you have used with your children or have given away – books that were excellent at telling the Christmas story with purpose.

We will be updating this blog on a regular basis.  We will be highlighting the best suggestions from you each month.

We want this to be for everyone’s benefit.  We can learn from each other and want you to add to this effort.

Remember, this is not to be a replacement for The Word.  We know that the word is living and powerful and sharper than a two edged sword.  However, we thank God for the wisdom of Godly men and women.

First Book:  Bishop Bob’s recommendation:  Ablaze for God, Wesley L. Duewel.  A brief summary of this book is personal revival; however, there is so much more here.  There are chapters on the lives of Charles Finney and Duncan Campbell.  Many books published today have at their core, one or possibly two main points.  Ablaze for God has excellent content in every chapter, often with informative and inspirational anecdotes.

Below is an excerpt from chapter one:

“Ablaze for God!  Your personality so suffused with the presence and beauty of the Lord that others instinctively sense that God is with you!  God’s hand so clearly evident upon your life and leadership that a quiet holy power and authority seem to rest upon you.  A repeated anointing of the Holy Spirit upon you in your daily responsibilities and leadership activities!  Whether you are a minister or a lay person, God wants you as a leader to be truly ablaze with His Holy Spirit.”

We look forward to hearing from you.  Remember, the fields are white and ready for harvest.

God bless you richly as we learn and grow together.
David Rinehart

Next time Bishop Bob will be sharing on Spiritual Thoughts for leaders.

The book recommend this time is Ablaze for God by Wesley L. Duewel

  1. One of the best personal devotions I’ve ever read was titled “Awake My Heart” by J. Sidlow Baxter. He has also written a great study tool named “Explore the Book.” Both of these are worth having in your library and will enrich your study. Another great Bible study tool is “Willmington’s Guide to the Bible.” Another great book to help incorporate poetry into the message is “The Poetry of Preaching” by Dr. Clyde Box.
