Renaissance Outreach Ministries—Weekly Update-Jan Beaderstadt

½ Million Christians celebrate Easter en Masse in Nepal

The Christians in Kathmandu, Nepal gathered early Esther Sunday morning at their church.. Almost no churches were having Easter services that day. Instead, they were preparing to march to the Tudikhel Parade Grounds for the annual Easter Service.

Two years ago, the government had denied the Christians the opportunity to gather at the public parade grounds. But this year, an estimated ½ million gathered for the annual Easter celebration.

According to figures we have received, this represents that the entire Christian population of Nepal is around 5 million or 18% of the country. This is a far cry from 2000 when Christianity was only ½% of the nation.

Across the country, similar Easter celebrations were held. This represents the one time each year when the various Christian churches come together to celebrate.

The worship service itself is about two hours long and most end up standing for the event as there is limited seating. The celebration features plenty of music, preaching, flag waving as well as releasing balloons in the air to celebrate the risen Christ.

Most churches in Nepal are independent, although there are many denominations in the country. The church continues to grow in both city as well as rural areas.

Ministry Financing Seminars conducted

Renaissance Outreach Ministries has launched a new series of seminars for pastors and church leaders on church finance.

Renaissance continues to work in training pastors. Over the last couple of years, more and more focus has been on church administration and pastoral counseling.

“Pastors can get good Bible training in many areas,” noted Rev. Jan L. Beaderstadt, president of Renaissance Outreach Ministries. “What they need is Biblical training on leadership, administration and pastoral care and counseling in order to be effective pastors in their communities.”

The courses are now being taught at Blessed Bible School outside of Kathmandu along with seminars around the country.

In time, these seminars will be also launched in Bangladesh and India.

Transparency, accountability and developing a local financial base is being strongly emphasized in the current seminars. This will help to develop sustainable ministries in developing nations.

Renaissance continues to train pastors in Biblical training as they work in all aspects of pastoral ministry.
